Shake it like a Polaroid Picture

While turning on the projector so that we could all check the weather to see if we could play outside (the answer was a little obvious considering it was snowing, but they were really excited to see what the temperature was anyway), I overheard a boy say this to another male classmate:

"Shake what your momma gave ya"

It makes me wonder what he was referring to...

Stereotype Much?

For our fall field trip we went to our local police station. While in our meet and greet with the sergeant who had the privilege of escorting us around, he opened up the floor for questions. We had the normal "Do you have a gun?" or "Will we see police dogs?" and even "Were you the officer who came to my house the other night?", but never did I expect this:

"Are we going to see policemen eating donuts?"

Thanksgiving Dinner

I asked each of my students how they believed you would cook a turkey for Thanksgiving. I had them go through all the steps that they would have to take to make a Thanksgiving turkey.

Sadly, the most common answer to where they would get their turkey from was this:

"The zoo."

Followed by a look that said: "Duh Ms. W, where else would I get it from?"

Don't tell PETA.

I Like Reading

While reading a story (about nothing really in particular...probably just some animal that talks), I hear this conversation:

Student 1: "That book is sexy."

Student 2: "Yeah, that book is sexy."

Victoria's Secret might have some competition with my book selections.

Bats in the Cave

While studying the five senses we came onto the topic of smell. The picture in the book looked up a nose and it showed how we have hair in our nostrils. This is what came out of it:

Ms. W: "Why do you think we have hair in our nose?"

Student: "Because my daddy has hair in his nose."

Later that day at recess-

Ms. W: "Do I have hair in my nose?"

Another Student: "No but you do have little boogers"

They are such discreet creatures.

Kiss Your Brain!

Oh Dr. Jean, where do I begin?

I felt that I should explain where "kiss your brain" comes from. Dr. Jean is a pretty well known...well I guess doctor in education? She makes songs that go along with popular topics that we teach and songs that make you feel good about yourself, i.e. "Kiss Your Brain".

So whenever someone says something really thoughtful or smart in class, we say "kiss your brain". They then proceed to kiss their fingertips and touch their head. We're all about spreading germs in every way possible.

My personal favorite parts are the screaming baby and the girl who can't remember when to kiss her brain so she just keeps her mouth on her palm for the majority of the song (after picking her nose at the beginning).
